I was craving a good soup so I did a search online and typed in "best soup in anchorage" and that is how I found Doriola's. They just happen to be directly across the street from work which is very convenient. My co-workers and I called in an order for pick-up and they were very pleasant and had the order labeled and wrapped up for us when we arrived. The person that helped us didn't mind breaking it up for us so it would be easy to pay with cash, check, cc. Once we all sat down at work to eat our meals we didn't want to stop! The soup was definitely some of the best I have ever had. We will be going back soon!

Happy Holidays to my friends at Doriola's!
I want you to know how much my family enjoys your restaurant and have made it part of our family experience. It was over a mid-week lunch at Doriola's that my daughter gave me the wonderful news that she was expecting her first baby - my first grandchild! It was to your restaurant that we celebrated her next birthday with one-month old baby on his first outing. It's where we go to have family conferences and celebrations. And always - a deLIGHTful place to go for breakfast or lunch during the work week.
Bless you for your loving attitude and regard for your customers, and for the high quality and concern for comfort cooking.
We love you all and wish you the most wonderful Christmas Season.

Doriola's is indeed Pure Comfort Food. We have never had anything we did not truly enjoy. It is so much better than stopping off for fast food. Service is excellent and prompt or they have it to go and it is not over priced food. We will see you in January 2010 for Date Night

We can't say enough praise about the quality of Doriola's food and the exceptional service we receive! There hasn't been one single instance when we were dissatisfied.
Honestly, we think the chicken soups are therapeutic. It would be great if during flu season we could have one of your Chicken (or Turkey) Soup variations as a third option and it be available every day! When we're feeling under the weather, the first place we go is to the Doriola's page to see if you're presenting one of your Chicken Soups for the day. There have been a couple of times when we could have really used it because of feeling crummy.
We know how hard you work... so it's just a suggestion.
Thank you for giving the community of Anchorage such wonderful high quality food! And thank you for using Anchorage products and "local" produce vendors to get the work done.
You're something to brag about! (And we frequently do...!)

Well, I have to say that I tried the Doriola's grilled cheese, bacon and apple sandwich. That was the best sandwich ever. The only problem is I try looking for it and y'all need to make it more. I have been raving about this for a month!. Keep up the great work.

I am anxious to come try your soup. However I keep noticing you put ONIONS in most all of your soups. Tomato Soup??? creamed soups should omit the onions, anyway as a soup connoisseur I have put my two cents in. Saddened by the fact Everyone thinks onions add flavor..... Please make an onion free soup once...... Still waiting.........

Have been in a few more times since my first experience and have not been disappointed. I check the specials on the web site almost daily. Currently waiting for the Beer and Cheddar soup to come around on your recommendation. While looking at the sandwich special I thought of something I wanted to suggest for you to try should you ever run out of ideas: Most everyone has done a version of a French Dip at one time or another, but here is my personal favorite. Thin sliced roast beef on a toasted hoagie roll, add a mixture of sauteed onion, mushroom and anaheim green chili. Top with a slice of Monterey Jack cheese and broil quickly to melt the cheese. Serve with a good thick au jus (I want to taste your take on this as so many make it watery and weak) and it is a small slice of heaven... Just thought I would pass it along. Thanks again for your wonderful restaurant!

Thank you for a wonderful experience! I was in the mood for soup and a quick Google of "Best Soup Anchorage" gave me your name at the top of the list. I am still relatively new to Alaska, having moved up here last summer and still finding the places I like to go here in Anchorage. I can honestly say I found one of my favorites in a single trip! Soup that was full of subtle flavors and obviously made with TLC, and sandwiches (I got a half of two different one since I was having a problem deciding!) that were fresh and flavorful. Service? I wouldn't even call it that, more like a friend inviting you in for lunch! Smiles and honest concern that everything was the way you like it... I plan to tell everyone I can!
I LOVED IT!

I have been coming to your cafe in the morning to get coffee and once I tried your Bagel Frenchie which was to die for! I fell in love with not only the coffee but the atmosphere and the service. It is very hard to find excellent service and to me that is the most important thing. Even if the coffee is the best I've ever had, I will never go back if the service is terrible.
Today, I tried your lunch menu and I have to say, I was highly impressed. I had the half order of the chicken sandwich and the half order of the green salad (I don't remember the names of the dishes). The way all the flavors worked together was incredible and the meal was also filling as well as satisfying. Not to mention, even though the cafe was packed with hungry customers, I still was treated politely and wasn't rushed. I could take my time and was even allowed to use the coffee card to pay for lunch! Again, I am a huge believer in excellent customer service and Doriola's is on my list!!! I am a firm believer in "word-of-mouth" and you can count on more people showing up since I have a big mouth!

OK, so you have really delicious soups, sandwiches and food. It is tough to find a really good tasting soup in Anchorage. Your navy bean, mushroom and rice, cauliflower cheese, I could go on... The store is cozy, cute and comfortable. What is outstanding is the service! On my first visit I was brought a large glass of ice water with a slice of lemon, unheard of in this town. Your servers are always smiling and efficient. I enjoy being able to have a "combo plate" and sample a little of everything...quiche, soup, salad, sandwich...whatever I feel like that day. Thanks you for this oasis in the great North!

I absolutely love your restaurant, but it seems like you're offering fewer and fewer vegetarian options. It seemed like before there would almost always be one soup that was vegetarian. I check every day... please keep us non-meat (and dairy) eaters in mind!

My family, friends and I have enjoyed many great meals at Doriola's. We also enjoy the ever-changing artwork on display. Doriola's offers a unique dining experience for Anchorage.
P.S. Please add me to your email list for Date Night.

Had to tell you gals at Doriola's what a pleasure it was to bring in my visiting friends from Berlin (Steffen & Carsten). They remembered the place from their last visit (just this past Sept. 07) when we were only able to visit for lunch once, but during this most recent visit we were able to make it in twice - in one week! They are as much in love with the scrumptious nummy treats that Doriola's has to offer as we are and Vivian you REALLY impressed Carsten with your remembering his love of Coke, no ice - please. "V" you ROCK!!! Thank you for another tasty meal......hope you gals have a fabulous summer......
PS. My Mom is a HUGE fan of Doriola's, as well, and needless to say - when she visits this year.....we'll be heading in for a lunch or two or three during her visit!

My co-workers and I are so "addicted" to Doriola's food and hospitality that recently when I was unable to access the Internet to check out the Daily Lunch Specials, I called my daughter in Kentucky to have her go to your web site and read the menu to me. As it turned out, our favorites were listed (including Cream of Wild Rice soup) and we again enjoyed a pleasurable lunch! By the way, my daughter is jealous since everything on the menu sounded so yummy!
P.S. On the average we lunch at Doriola's 2-3 times a week

I still read your menus almost every day and wish I lived in AK so I could indulge. Janet makes the BEST quiche ever. Service is so smiley and comfy. This is just the perfect place.

My daughter and I frequent Doriola's at least once a week - more if we can fit it in. What a treasure to have a wonderful place to not only feel like you've just come home - but to have the comfort of Mama's cooking tool It's wonderful !!! Way to go Janet and Vivian. You have a loyal crowd I know and we are definitely among them. Thank you - thank you !!

I have heard great things about the food and the place. i am moving up to Alaska in August and I have already been instructed to go there and buy a bunch of cookies to send back to my co-workers here in Tacoma, WA. I plan on visiting to taste the food also. With all the raves my co-workers have told me I just have to go. Once I do that I am sure I will be one of the ones on here leaving excellent comments about the food. See you in August.

Nothing but praise, but what I really want is to be put on your "Date Night" e-mail list!

When I lived in Anchorage I ate lunch at Doriola's as often as possible and I was never disappointed. While the sandwiches are "merely" excellent (especially the grilled cheese with a slice of apple), the soups are top-tier even by Lower 48 standards and I miss them every day. From the slice of lemon in your water to the tiny cookie with the check, Doriola's is the perfect lunch experience.

I enjoy my occasional visits to Doriola's, and my lengthy conversations with my friend Janet. I do hope to drop in one day and indulge in the 5 course meal, that is offered monthly by reservation only. Janet, you are a contribution to the City and people of Anchorage, I will continue to rave of the great service, and excellent food at Doriola's!

I've been a HUGE/GINORMOUS fan of Doriola's ever since I read about their opening in the ADN in Dec. 2005. Been spreading the word about their delicious soups & meals far & wide - ever since. When my Mother came to visit from Southern California last year, I took her to lunch there - twice. Took my friends who were visiting from Berlin last Sept., too! They'll be back in May & you betcha - we're heading to Doriola's for lunch a few times during their visit. By far the best (and most original) soups in town, if not in the state. The creators of Doral are to be commended for food originality - that's for sure! Thank you, girls!

Was at your place today and Mama's Meatloaf sandwich was great. The sweet potato soup was perfect, too. Didn't see you, Vivian must have had you slaving away in the back. I'm sure you were busy with the meatloaf sandwiches.

I've been a fan of Doriola's since first reading a small article on it's opening in the ADN last Dec. 05. LOVE the place! Awesome food, atmosphere, lovely people,....just a joy to visit! The best soups I've EVER had! I've introduced many friends to the place and can't wait to take my Mother when she visits next month! Thanks to Janet & Vivian we have a fabulous alternative to what's out there ("fast food" and otherwise!). Hmmmmmmmm!

Oh, my! My family and I tried Doriola's this past weekend and fell in love! The food was too yummy and very filling! The Roast Garlic and Tomato Soup with Pesto Cream was to DIE FOR! It was by far one of the best tomato soups I have ever had -- thick and almost close to resemble a marinara sauce -- but so much better then marinara, very rich and full. All the grilled sandwiches were very flavorful, juicy and so filling! We also enjoyed the sweet surprise at the end of our meal -- they give you delicious chewy little cookies with your bill instead of mints. It was the perfect fit to the end of a outstanding lunch meal! :) Seating/serving was a little slow and crazy this weekend -- but we figured it was just a little crazy at Doriola's since the new review in the paper and all the praise friends must be giving lately! But I'm sure in time they will come up with a better sitting/waiting system (seeing who got which table next was a bit confusing with some sitting over here and some standing over here) and their will be more help to get food out in a more timely fashion (but it was SO worth the wait!!). Staff were all VERY nice and friendly. Very helpful. Food cost is reasonable, not overly priced. I will be a regular from now on at Doriola's -- it was beyond delicious! YUM! YUM! YUM!

It's about time that a newspaper review of Doriola's showed up in the ADN! I first read about it (a small little blip in the paper) several months ago & it sounded sooooo nice I just had to check it out! I've been a regular weekly customer ever since! They have it all there! The best soups I have ever encountered. Yummy wraps & sandwiches. And a wonderful atmosphere! Their web site is great & very informative! Each week I am so pleased to see them get more and more customers.....granted I have been very vocal about the place since day one and have taken my share of friends to lunch there as well. I wish for them lots of success. It's great to find a nummy alternative to "fast food" and this place fits the bill to a "T"! Thank you!
